This morning started off like every other morning; tea in hand while I examine Pinterest for inspiration. The topic of search this early morning was “Unicorn Birthday Ideas”. As each day passes I become slightly more infatuated with My Little Pony – All thanks to my soon to be 5-year-old Mini Me.
Every year I try to top the previous year’s celebrations – this year is of no exception. With our recent move, I am more enthusiastic than ever to offer my munchkin the thrilling birthday that she is dreaming of. Why you may ask? Well besides my need to strive for “mother of the year”, I have noticed her sudden awkwardness with making new friends and her heartbreak saying farewell to a few old friends.
When deciding on a birthday theme – she became ecstatic with the idea of turning our home into Sugarcube Corner where all of her friends can bake some delightful unicorn recipes just like Pinky Pie. Don’t worry – I will share all of our activities and recipes in a later post.
Today, however, I wanted to share with you just how crazy the Unicorn trend has become. Back in April, Starbucks made headlines when they offered a new Frappuccino for a mere 5 days! The Unicorn Frap was cause for fanatical line ups and wait times at every Starbucks location. While the reviews of the elusive beverage were mixed, Starbucks jump started a trend that would last the rest of the year.
Just to add to the Unicorn obsession, Hasbro took advantage of this craze in October by producing the first full length feature My Little Pony Movie. Now if you have kids, you completely understand that with new children’s movies come McDonalds Toys, Cookies; Gummies, Cereals; Cakes, etc. Ponyville has essentially taken over every big box store in Canada!
Now this is not a food trend for everyone – either you love it or you hate it. There is no middle ground! I myself, adore the colorful inspiration. However, if I hear the My Little Pony theme song one more time today I just may scream.
